Crisis counselors who understand LGBTQ+ life. Call, text, or chat — whichever feels possible right now. Also has a calm breathing exercise if you're not ready to talk.
Trans Lifeline
A hotline run by and for trans people. Peer support — the person who answers gets it in a way no script can. Family & friends welcome to call too.

RAINN — Sexual Assault Hotline

PFLAG Athens Area
Monthly support meetings — a parent/ally discussion group and a young adult group, usually Thursday evenings. Open to everyone at any stage of the journey: questioning, out, coming out, or loving someone who is.
Athens Pride & Queer Collective
The city's LGBTQ+ nonprofit — Pridefest, Queer Prom, support groups, and a gender-affirming care fund. Mostly volunteers, entirely donation-funded. Their community guide maps queer-owned and affirming businesses around Athens.
The Cottage — Sexual Assault Center
Athens' sexual assault center & children's advocacy center. Free, trauma-informed counseling and advocacy for survivors of all genders and identities — their team served hundreds of LGBTQ+ clients last year. Hospital accompaniment, legal navigation, therapy.
Advantage Behavioral Health Systems
The public community mental health provider for Athens-Clarke County and surrounding counties — counseling, psychiatry, crisis services, and substance-use treatment, regardless of ability to pay. Start with their Athens-Clarke County office.
Nuçi's Space
A musician's resource and support center founded in memory of Nuçi Phillips — a safe, supportive environment for musicians, with practice spaces and a well-known mental health referral network. One of Athens' most beloved queer-friendly spaces.
Live Forward
Formerly AIDS Athens — HIV testing, prevention (PrEP navigation), and support services for the Athens area. Free pop-up testing around town and on campus. Located at 2500 W Broad St, Suite 300, Athens.

Where the state's biggest LGBTQ+ services live — about an hour down 316.
Lost-n-Found Youth
Atlanta's nonprofit for LGBTQ+ young adults (18–25) experiencing homelessness — emergency support, street outreach, housing, and a youth center. If you're a young person with nowhere to sleep tonight, start here.
CHRIS 180
Mental health and human services nonprofit — counseling centers (including affordable sliding-scale therapy), supportive housing, and programs specifically for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
Covenant House Georgia
Shelter and services for young people facing homelessness — a significant share of whom are LGBTQ+. Emergency beds, case management, job help, no judgment at the door.
Destination Tomorrow Atlanta
A grassroots LGBTQ+ center focused on the needs of queer and trans people of color — community space, programming, and housing support. Real community, not just services.
AID Atlanta
One of the Southeast's longest-running HIV service organizations — testing, prevention, linkage to care, and support groups. Many services free.
Georgia Equality
The state's LGBTQ+ policy and advocacy organization — tracks what's happening in Georgia law, maintains a provider resource directory, and organizes civic participation.
Someone who's been there — peer lines
Not crisis lines — warm, unhurried peer support from fellow LGBTQ+ people. Check hours; most are evenings and weekends.
LGBT National Hotline
Run by the LGBT National Help Center since 1996 — volunteers who are all part of the community. Call about coming out, identity, relationships, isolation, finding local resources, or just to talk to someone who gets it. Evenings ET, plus Saturdays.
LGBT National Coming Out Hotline
A safe place to think out loud about coming out — at work, to family, to yourself — with someone who's navigated it. All ages, all paces, including "I never plan to."
LGBT National Youth Talkline
Youth serving youth — talk with a peer about anything: identity, family, school, dating, feeling alone. Not a crisis line; a "normal person to talk to" line.
LGBT National Senior Hotline
For community members 50 and up — many of whom came of age in a much crueler world and carry that. Peer volunteers who lived it too.
SAGE LGBTQ+ Elder Hotline
National crisis and support line run with and for LGBTQ+ elders — people who survived the AIDS crisis only to face isolation in housing and care. Available around the clock.
SAMHSA National Helpline
Not therapy itself — a free, confidential referral line for mental health and substance-use treatment anywhere in the US. Tell them what you need and roughly where you are; they point you to real options, including low-cost ones.

LGBTQ+ Catholics, families, and friends — working for full inclusion in the church they love. Local chapters, and a long history of keeping faith alive through exile.
